Before the courses begin, all participants, unless they are absolute
beginners, need to take a Placement test. The test consists of two
parts: a written and oral exam.
The written exam lasts for an hour and a half and is a combination
of tasks in grammar, vocabulary and essay writing. The oral exam
is an interview which lasts for about 20 minutes. Based on the test's
results, a student is placed in the most appropriate level (J1-4).
Every level (J1- J4) has its own mentor professor and assisting
professor. The mentor is in charge for the vast majority of the
classes, schedule, and students' achievements during the course.
The mentor is at his students' disposal for individual consulations
every day.
Upon completing a regular Serbian language programme at Azbukum
(with a minimum of 40 classes), the student may take a Final test
in the Serbian Language and receive a Certificate with a mark of
his knowledge.
The final mark will be graded from A (excellent) to E (failed).
The mark which will be given depends on the student's results in:
- final exam/ test 50%
- homework 20%
- attendence and participation 30%
Besides the Certificate of attendance, student may receive a letter
of recomendation issued by the Azbukum Centre. In this letter both
the mentor and the assisting profesor give their opinion of the
student's work during the course and final results.
Classes are held Monday through Friday. Each lesson lasts for 45
minutes. The total number of daily lessons depends on the amount
of classes per course, as well as on the combination of courses
the student decides to take.
There is a maximum of ten participants per group within the summer
programs and not more than six students per group over the yearly
programs.
Weekends are reserved for additional activities: walks, excursions,
gatherings, sports competitions, etc.
